Silvia is the owner and general manager of San Joaquin. Silvia is an Enrolled Agent. That is that she is able to represent clients before the Internal Revenue Service in their stead. If you don’t want to deal with the government face-to-face during an audit or even over the phone this is really the way to go. In addition to representing clients, Silvia’s core focus is on complex business and personal returns, including partnerships, corporations, and trusts. Silvia is also an accomplished bookkeeper and is one of fewer than five people in the southern San Joaquin Valley holding the designation of Certified Bookkeeper® from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers.

Payroll Coordinator

Juanita originally joined San Joaquin in 2005, and has supported our clients in several roles early on with the company until she found her favorite roll as our Payroll Specialist and later, as our business grew, as our Payroll Coordinator. Prior to joining the team, Juanita, was enlisted in the US Army, where her organization skills were fine-tuned in her administrative roll. She brings the best of this experience to help our payroll clients.

Juanita oversees handles all payroll activities including payroll report compilation, assisting with workers compensation audits, exception processing, quality control of the payroll function, and overseeing the onboarding process for our payroll clients as well.  Allowing them to concentrate on their business is Juanita’s ultimate goal.

ROB HERNANDEZ, CTEC

Professional Accountant/Tax Preparer

With four decades of professional level accounting experience in various public, and governmental accounting firms, Rob brings his love of numbers and plain communication style to his work with our business clients here at San Joaquin, joining us in 2009. Rob’s commonsense manner allows him to explain complex accounting and business issues into everyday language.

Rob’s greatest joys on the job include the privilege of directly helping clients with their accounting since it’s the biggest part of what makes a business tick. Presently he’s working toward completing his Enrolled Agent credential by 2019 in order the better assist tax clients and business owners in tax planning and uncovering tax deductions, proactive tax problem identification and resolution of detected tax problems and business issues. This is the greatest power that a professional accountant brings to the table to help individuals and small business owners.

Over Rob’s four decades of accounting experience he has honed his problem-solving skills; being able to walk into various situations, review their unique problems, interview stakeholders, analyze the data, and work down to identify the problem or problem facing each client. Rob has a servant’s heart and strives to make a difference in business and in the community. Prior to moving to Bakersfield, Rob was an eight year member of Visalia Rotary. In 2009, Rob got involved in public service in Kern County, and has since served as the treasurer for the local election committee.

When he is unable to get away for the weekend or an extended vacation he continues his woodworking activities to create useful and artistic items. Ask Rob about any of these activities and you’ll see him light up as he shares a wealth of knowledge and experience in these often enjoyed personal diversions.

Client Service Coordinator

Patricia joined San Joaquin in 2012 as the face of our business.  Once someone walks in the door or calls on the phone, more than likely its Patricia you see or hear.  Her core responsibility is reception, scheduling and client intake. She is also responsible for administration of our client service experience model.  Patricia works directly with Silvia and other staff in identifying ways to continually improve and enhance your experience with our company. She is dedicated in this way to continuous improvement.

Maya Angelou said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”  This philosophy has been Patricia’s greatest asset and makes her our greatest asset in the way she takes care of our clients and her fellow team members. In her spare time, Patricia is active in her church and dedicates much of the remainder of her time enjoying traveling, bicycling, reading and painting furniture. In addition, her favorite movie is “La Bamba”.

Payroll Clerk/Accounting Assistant

Julie Joined San Joaquin in 2014 as a part-time Client Service Assistant. During her first tax season with us she also coordinated tax return processing. Since then her roll has grown and expanded to the point she became a full-time member of the San Joaquin team. She now works with our payroll clients and insures accuracy and promptness of each client’s payroll, providing information and support for clients and their employees as needed. When not engaged in her payroll responsibilities, Julie backs up our receptionist at the front desk and supports Silvia and Rob with data entry for bookkeeping clients under their supervision.

Julie graduated from Delano High School and currently attends Bakersfield College, majoring in Accounting. Julie enjoyed participating in cross country as a high school student and remains physically active as a participant in various local races in the five to ten kilometer range. One of her favorite guiding quotes is from Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and reads: “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Julie puts her heart into everything she does and you will be able to see that from her as soon as you meet.
